Buying Side Tables in Twos

Living Room - Second Iteration

A side table is small and convenient for corners of a room or the bedside. It can hold a single item or a small collection of important pieces. The bedroom side table often holds an alarm clock, a book, or a pair of glasses while a kitchen table may hold jars or bowls. When buying a side table, consider buying two matching tables instead of one. If you want to add a little flair to a room, buy two different tables in complementary styles.

Why would you need two side tables for your home? They say two heads are better than one, and the same is true for tables. Two tables give you more storage, create symmetry, and balance out the furniture around them. Take the bedroom as an example. Perhaps you have a small glass table beside your bed. It’s convenient for holding a lamp to read by at night, but it throws off the symmetry. Help bring the bed back into balance by placing an identical table on the opposite side. The bed is now a fully balanced focal point of the room.

Two tables give you more storage for your belongings. One holds your alarm clock and photo frames while another holds your books and lamp. Separate the TV remote and guide from a stack of magazines by using a table on either side of the living room couch, or divide up spices from cooking utensils in the kitchen with a table on either end. Examine your home and you’ll find the possibilities are endless.

  1. George Benson Says:

I have always found that having two side tables gives the room much more balance and it is easier to make a design due to the flexibility of the positioning of the bed.

I quite like the continental draws you see in some divan bed designs which are quite elegant as well.
