Choosing a Coffee Table

The coffee table is an important accessory for the home. It brings the design of a room together, and creates a focal point in the center that directs the viewer’s eye. When choosing appropriate coffee tables for your home, there are three key points to keep in mind: style, size, and color. These three factors will determine the perfect coffee table for any room.
Style is a basic choice between a more classic or contemporary look. Glass coffee table tops are efficient and fit both styles. The rest of the table can be a traditional square, or a more modern, curved shape. The style should reflect the decorations in the rest of the home.
The size of the table should be even with, or just below, the couch or furniture in the room. This ensure the coffee table is always within reach, but not so low that it takes extra effort to reach down when sitting on the furniture. The length and width of the table can be determined by the room. A smaller table works in a smaller room, and a larger table in larger rooms.
Finally, when choosing color, keep in mind the design of the room. For a coffee table that can be used even if the design changes, choose a neutral color such as silver or black. This fits into both a classical or modern scheme, and will match any decor. The color is elegant, but won’t draw too much attention away from the rest of the room. Gold is also a nice color for a room with white or gold accents.
