Creating Focal Points with a Coffee Table

When it comes to turning your quaint coffee table into a lively focal point for a room, accessories are your best weapon. These accent pieces may be simple or complex, depending on the theme of your room. Often a single object can create a focal point in a modern room.
Glass coffee tables have the advantage of creating distorted reflections of the objects on top of them, and allowing the viewer to see through to the pattern underneath. For this reason, position your coffee table over a rug or a particularly attractive, high-quality floor. Match the accessories on top by using colored glass or simple metal picture frames and bowls to match both the table and hold your items for display.
The angle of your table can create the focal point as well. Try going against the flow of the room to bring the attention to the table. A round coffee table fits perfectly in front of a curved wall underneath a window. Texture can add interest to an otherwise simple table. Look for coffee tables that have glass tops and elaborate metalwork in the legs underneath. The eye is naturally drawn through the table top and down to the very design of the table.
Combine the table materials, location in the room, and accessories for a perfect focal point in any section of the room. A large room may benefit from two coffee tables, to divide the room and provide a resting place for items on both sides.
