Creating Space with Contemporary Furniture

Contemporary furniture embraces the fluid properties of metal and glass. These metals not only work well with each other, but they also create a sense of unity and space in a room. Many home owners may wonder how they can create more space in their homes with contemporary furniture. There are a number of ways to achieve this effect without needing to learn any fancy techniques.
First, home owners should consider the furniture itself. To create space in a room, consider glass table tops and silver metals. Choose furniture with curved forms to soften harsh angles. For lighter rooms dark metals can be used, though light metals will work just as well.
Next, concentrate on accessories. Mirrors and lighting can add space to any room. The mirror itself is the simplest accessory to use. Simply hang it up and it will instantly give a room more depth. Use a mirror on a wall that lacks a window. The larger the mirror, the larger the room will appear. Open up dark areas in a room by adding table lamps beside furniture and standing lamps in corners.
Finally, create a theme and stick to it to give the room unity. An unbalanced room will work against its self and eliminate space instead of creating it. Use the same dark or light tones for furniture and accessories, and pair items together to add interest. A simple wall mirror above a glass table set off by lamps on either side will reflect the light to create warmth and space in even the darkest of rooms.
