Two common materials found in the contemporary design of today’s furniture are metal and glass. When choosing a new piece of furniture or an accessory for your home, you may wonder how to use these two materials together. Metal and glass compliment each other nicely, providing a variety of choices for your rooms.
The materials can be combined to balance each other out. A dark metal frame in a table with a glass top keeps the piece from becoming too dark and overbearing. If a room has a large amount of glass or metal, find accessories made from the other material to create harmony. A glass picture frame in a room with dark metals adds a sparkling touch of beauty.

The bedside table is an important piece of furniture often overlooked in the design process of the bedroom. The right table can be both decorative and functional, adding design and purpose to your room. A bedside table chosen specifically to match your bedroom decor creates a sense of design by complimenting the bed, and drawing attention to it. The height of the table does not overpower the bed, but instead works with it to create the focal point for the room.
But what if your table is a simple glass design? How does it compliment the room? There are several ways this is possible. Glass and metal work with any design scheme, regardless of color, but for those who want a bit more color to their design can use the table to hold decorations. Picture frames, flowers in glass vases, or small statues and ornaments can create just the right touch to complete a bare room.

Glass is often taken for granted in the world of home decor. It appears in every aspect of our lives, from the glass panes in our doors to the glass in our windows. This important material has special design advantages that make it an excellent choice for both the home and furniture.
One of the more useful traits of glass is its transparency. The clear glass allows the home owner to show off the style of their room. It creates a peaceful atmosphere without taking too much attention away from the other features of the room. A rug or hardwood floor can be seen through a glass coffee table, along with the decorative patterns on dining room chairs. Glass is also slightly reflective, allowing light to travel through it as it reflects back designs from the walls, ceiling, and furniture.

Adding accessories to a coffee table can create balance and peace in a room. A bare coffee table doesn’t do much for the overall design, but a few well chosen accessories can make an empty room fill cozy again. One of the most basic and simple accessories to add is a vase. Vases come in all shapes and sizes, from neutral colors that match any design scheme to bright colors for vibrantly decorated rooms. Flowers can be added to the vases, or kept in their own containers. A small bamboo plant creates a peaceful atmosphere.
Choose the accessories to match the current color scheme in the room, and buy small items instead of large pieces that are too overwhelming for use on coffee tables. A simple clock or a stack of books makes a room feel like home. Picture frames with special photographs add a personal touch, and photo albums can be stored if the coffee table contains shelves underneath.

The coffee table is an important accessory for the home. It brings the design of a room together, and creates a focal point in the center that directs the viewer’s eye. When choosing appropriate coffee tables for your home, there are three key points to keep in mind: style, size, and color. These three factors will determine the perfect coffee table for any room.
Style is a basic choice between a more classic or contemporary look. Glass coffee table tops are efficient and fit both styles. The rest of the table can be a traditional square, or a more modern, curved shape. The style should reflect the decorations in the rest of the home.

One of the most important pieces of furniture to pick out for your home is a bed. What makes it so important is that it is the place you go for your body to recuperate from the day and prepare for the next. Your bed should be a combination of supportive, yet comfortable. It also needs to be reflective on your individual needs and preferences.
Start of by choosing a headboard that matches the decor of your bedroom. Choose a theme that fits with your personality, such as peaceful, playful or modern. When shopping for a headboard, be sure to choose one that will work with various bedding colors and designs. Your bedding can also serve as a tool for bedroom decoration and add a positive visual appeal to the room.

Being able successfully to match the style of your furniture with that of your home is a delicate balancing act that must be performed while weighing comfort, style, and affordability. We would all love to have top of the line, high-end furnishings, but this is not always economically feasible, nor would this type of furniture necessarily fit within our home or lifestyle. It is therefore important to consider you personal style, with that of your home, and the furniture you are planning to purchase, before making a decision on the type of furnishings to select for your home.
To make an educated decision before making a furniture purchase, consider the style of your home. Is your residence a more contemporary setting, with recent updates, and modern appliances? If so, outfitting your home with older, more classic furnishings may clash severely. However, just the opposite can occur in an older home, where newer designs and furnishings might seem completely out of place.

A platform bed is designed to support the mattress with no box spring required. This has several advantages in today’s modern world, ranging from style to functionality and safety. Platform beds can be shorter than a traditional bed. Many people prefer their bed to be lower to the ground either out of personal preference or to better fit the style of the room. This is an excellent choice for children who may be worried about falling out of the bed at night. Platform beds are also shown to be sturdier, and thus safer, than a regular bed.
A major advantage of the platform bed is the storage space it provides. Without the box spring underneath, there is room for under-the-bed storage. Drawers can be added, or simple containers can be slid out of sight underneath the bed frame. A simple bed skirt will hide these storage units if you do not wish for them to be seen. Because of the increased storage, the room will contain less clutter. This may even cut down on furniture in the room since an additional set of drawers or a dresser is no longer necessary to hold the items.

Selecting new, contemporary furniture for the home can be an exciting, yet overwhelming experience. With seemingly countless designs, styles, and finishes to choose from many buyers fear making the wrong choices. Thankfully there are a few things to keep in mind while shopping that will make the experience go much smoother.
First of all, relax and take your time. Rarely are great rooms designed by people who are in a hurry to get it over with. Remember when you are looking to buy new furniture is to be sure you like the furniture. It may sound strange, but some buyers get so caught up searching for the latest design trends that they forget to step back and decide if it is really their personal style. Whether you’re furnishing a room or an entire house, it is good to select pieces that coordinate but are not necessarily part of the same collection. For example, choosing pieces with the same design but different finishes can create visual interest while also creating harmony. Pieces all from the same collection look nice, but because the rooms so closely resemble furniture showrooms, they can be a bit boring and impersonal. Interior designers often design exciting and interesting rooms simply by choosing furniture pieces that compliment each other but do not match precisely. Many high end designers and manufacturers, such as Tom Faulkner, offer a wide variety of pieces in various finishes and contemporary styles that buyers can mix and match to create interesting designs.

Your coffee table is a reflection of your home and your own personal style. While coffee tables are mainly used as display for others, it should also be used as a tool for yourself, to express your personality. If you are having guests over, it is a good idea to put out a bowl of snacks, such as nuts, candy or chips. While this doesn’t have to permanently stay on the coffee table, you can keep a special and decorative bowl handy to pull out at any time to fill with snacks.
