How Angles Benefit a Room

Curves can create a certain atmosphere in a room, but too many become boring. Angles help to balance a room and, when used correctly, can be used as the only decorative element in a room. Angles help define and divide different spaces, lead the viewer around the room, and liven up a dull or sleepy atmosphere.
Angles are found most prominently in furniture. While you may not think about it, you are constantly surrounded by angles. They’re in many tables, chairs, and shelves that make up our rooms. Angles are crisp, clean, and give off a secure feel. A piece of furniture appears more solid when it is made of angles, such as the ninety degree angles created between straight legs and the flat tabletop.
Angles work well in an office setting. Match angular furniture with minimalistic designs for an atmosphere that promotes hard work. It is less distracting while still providing a refreshing break for the eyes when you need to take a break and look around.
In the home, angles are a wonderful choice for a living room or a kitchen. These are both high energy areas of the house, and clean angles help make the space feel ordered instead of chaotic. In decorations, rectangular or square pictures frames arranged in a straight line provide an artistic touch and still help the viewer’s eye flow across them and around the room. If the pictures are not in an easily recognizable pattern, the viewer becomes confused and that mood is reflected across the space. The same is true for furniture arrangement, whether at home or in the office.
