2022: A Year in Review

Last year was a hive of activity for us. Our team grew by nine wonderful additions to cover new bases. We also created an entirely new department of our workshop to handle cabinetry ourselves. Our ties with the US continued to deepen as well, with representation in Florida now underway. It certainly was a productive year – and one we look back on fondly! So, we wanted to share with you just a few of the highlights that made it so memorable…

Pimlico Road Shop Opening

2022 marked the beginning of a new chapter in Pimlico Road for us! It’s long been considered one of the premier design locations in the UK, if not the world. So, we were thrilled when we came upon the opportunity to create our second London outpost there. We took a few months to make the space our own, creating bespoke pieces like a pair of Cloud door handles to give it some TF character. We officially opened our doors in September and Tom had the pleasure of marking the occasion by hosting a conversation with David Mlinaric. We couldn’t be more excited to see how this new space develops in the coming years.

Trip to California

Tom and Miranda made their way to the American West Coast in October to see some sights and meet many new faces. We’re delighted to be working with new representation in San Francisco as well as in Florida, and it was great getting to know the people who are looking after us abroad. Tom also took the opportunity to visit a few of his architectural points of pilgrimage, like Frank Lloyd Wright’s Hollyhock House. He capped off the trip with a bit of whale watching, for good measure.

The Glass House Summer Party

Ever an admirer of creativity in design, Tom has long had an affinity for Philip Johnson’s iconic Glass House in New Canaan, Connecticut.  So, it was a real honour to donate our Lily Cocktail Tables for the auction at their most recent Summer Party. A day to remember, by all accounts!

First Trip to Copenhagen

Denmark is a buzzing with activity when it comes to design, so Tom was delighted to see it for himself over the course of 3 Days of Design. He took in Copenhagen, before popping across the border to Malmo, where he caught a glimpse of the city’s whimsical architecture and artistic delights.

Masterpiece Art Fair

This year we had the good fun of creating a bespoke Cloud Étagère for Pangolin London to display a beautiful array of art objects at Masterpiece fair. It was a joy to push the boundaries of certain stylistic motifs, like the irregular Cloud shape making up the shelves and traditionally forged spears which support them. Sadly, Masterpiece won’t be taking place this year, but we so enjoyed getting to be a part of it while we could.

AVA Takes Centre Stage

It was a real pleasure to see our AVA Dining Table displayed to perfection in the Shalini Misra-designed foyer at WOW House. It was fantastic to have our furniture in such capable hands and surrounded by the work of exceptionally talented makers. We’re delighted to be part of Shalini’s latest venture, Curio, which draws together a selection of hand-picked design and art object from across the world. She got off to a running start with a launch event, which featured AVA as well – a real honour!

Collect Collaboration with FIVE Collective

Tom had the pleasure of meeting FIVE Collective this past year and were immediately struck by their original approach to metalwork. Their creations are at once beautiful and useful, strong and precious. Tom carries a similar appreciation for the duality of metal as a material and felt we would make an excellent team at Collect. We hosted a week-long event in our Lots Road showroom, where FIVE displayed their work in tandem with our furniture, as well as set up a miniature workshop to create pieces on-site. Tom and the Collective’s, Ane Christensen finished the event with a fascinating conversation, exploring the possibilities and intrigue of metal. We’re very much looking forward to teaming up with them for Collect again this year!

Trip to Paris

Paris tends to make for a fun trip, but this one was especially exciting. Tom visited metal worker, Adam Steiner in his workshop and enjoyed a captivating demonstration of his craftsmanship and creativity. It’s always inspiring to meet other makers, particularly those who share a core material. If that wasn’t enough of a joy, he then topped the trip off with a Stones concert, because if you know Tom, you know he simply cannot say no to seeing his favourite band in action!

As we recount the highlights of the year, we can’t help but look forward to meeting more likeminded makers, pushing the envelope on new designs, and getting out into the world to take in all its inspiration. Here’s to a fantastic 2023 – we look forward to seeing what the New Year brings for all!
