Finishes and Materials

A signature of our Tom Faulkner furniture is the choice of finishes and materials we offer to help make the finishing touches to our furniture entirely bespoke. We can partner our metalwork furniture with several options for table tops, including choices of glass, wood and marble whilst our upholstery furniture pieces can come in a variety of leathers.

Standard Finishes

Our standard way of finishing our steel furniture is by powder coating, which is very durable, and gives a very clean, and even finish.

Specialist Finishes

Our specialist and antique finishes are all applied to our steel furniture by hand using metal powders, varnishes, and pigment. These specialist finishes help make our furniture pieces entirely bespoke.

Butterfly Finishes

There are five colourways that make up the Papillon collection – all named after butterflies, and they are applied by hand using the powder coating process. This is usually a very industrial process so it is very unusual to do it like this.

Garden Colours

Our Garden Lily cocktail tables are available in a range of fun colours, specifically chosen for outdoor use in gardens and patios. We love using a combination of different coloured Lily garden tables in a cluster.

Antiqued Mirror

Antiqued glass is an ideal finish for luxury furniture design. The process that goes into making it is intricate and artistic in equal measures. A host of secret artistic techniques are adopted to build up the right level of “aging”. This finish can be used across many furniture pieces – from dining table tops to cabinet door panels.

Bronze And Brass

Some of our designs can be made from Bronze or Brass, and we can offer a variety of different looks by using patinations and hand polishing techniques. A patina is the oxidisation of bronze, which can happen naturally over time, or the process can be sped up by manually heating the surface of the bronze and adding alkaline or acidic salts which helps to create a range of different effects. We treat all of our patinations with a layer of wax which helps to preserve the patina and stop the surface oxidising further.

Leather Upholstery

Leather is a classic finish to an upholstered furniture piece. It ages beautifully and stands the test of time.

Bridle Leathers

Our selection of bridle leathers are oak bark tanned, a gentle traditional English process that protects the natural fibres of the hide. These leathers are suitable for our Balzac desk and Berlin easy chair.

Marble Table Tops

Marble is one of the most ancient decorative (and architectural) materials in the world, and one of the most beautiful. It has captured the imagination of cultures and civilisations throughout history. We use marble, along with onyx and granites for many of our table tops. Apart from their beauty, they are durable, practical, and timeless.

Venetian Glass

The Venetian glass we use for our Lily cocktail tables and glass paperweights is hand-cast in Italy, and is available in 6 colours. The smooth texture and bright colours give the Venetian glass table tops a jewel-like quality.

Wooden Table Tops

All of the wood for our wooden table tops is sustainably sourced from Forest Stewardship Council registered suppliers. Below is a selection of our favourites that work particularly well with our range of wooden dining tables.
