Meet Your Match: Mixing TF Designs

Each Tom Faulkner collection carries its own unique character. Some are sparked by the fluid lines of nature; others emerge from art movements or cultural moments in history. These pieces take on different forms, yet are unified by Tom’s approach to design. They’re distinctive statements composed of a common vocabulary, which makes for harmonious combinations that add dynamism to an interior design scheme. Here we’ve drawn together a few of our favourite matches to offer a sense of how they can play off one another. Read on for a bit of inspiration on how to pair furniture for a cohesive look…

Cloud + Lily

Our Cloud and Lily collections share common ground in their natural roots. Both were inspired by amorphous, organic shapes, which happen to pair beautifully. The Cloud sofa and Lily side table are perfect partners from a practical standpoint, though they also add a dash of aesthetic intrigue. Matching Moon finishes tie the two together, with the legs of the sofa and stem of the table echoing one another. The blackened tone and textural quality of this hammered finish brings a touch of drama against the soft, inviting silhouettes of these two complementary designs.

Cloud + Memphis

Cloud armchair

We’ve just updated our Cloud collection with a brand-new armchair which distils all the allure of the sofa into a single seat. The two pieces work together beautifully in a living room, offering a bit of variety while maintaining a cohesive look. Also new to the collection is our latest take on the Memphis design. We’ve created a selection of side and sofa tables to suit any seating format, with varied heights and surface areas adding to their functional edge. They also work well as a combination of three, creating a design-forward vignette that can be dispersed to suit the needs of the moment. We find they pair wonderfully with the Cloud upholstered armchair, with crisp lines that bring a perfect level on contrast against the rich textures of the seat.

Phoenix²

When in doubt, it always works to pull your favourite pieces from one design family. Our Phoenix collection holds a range of matching furniture and lighting fixtures which create a natural sense of harmony together. The newest addition is a geometrically entrancing console table which balances beautifully with the matching mirror hung above. Both can be finished in a distinctive two-tone combination which helps to create an even deeper sense of continuity. We find the Charcoal and Florentine Gold pairing is particularly effective, instantly adding drama and dimension to an interior design scheme.

Lily + Jak

For those looking to stoke intrigue through contrast, we recommend pairing voluminous, undulating forms with clean and simple furniture designs. Our Lily pedestal dining tables have curvaceous silhouettes which come alive in a polished metallic finish, emanating the light and movement of an environment. This is perfectly tempered by the Jak chair, a design reduced to its key components and nothing more. It has a clarity of form which brings a certain modern minimalism to a dining space, animated by the Lily’s fluid footprint.

Capricorn + Tiffany

Capricorn oval dining table + Tiffany dining chairs

The Capricorn and Tiffany designs were, in many ways, made for each other. The Capricorn shape is a Tom Faulkner signature. Its classical silhouette is rooted in age-old principles of design which hold their appeal to this day. The Tiffany dining chair is the perfect complement to our perennially popular dining table. Its metal frame features a cut-out back which acts as a negative for the Capricorn form. These hourglass shapes play off one another to create a contemporary effect, bringing a fresh feel to a timeless design.
