The Eclipse is a strikingly contemporary dining table which draws upon many sources of inspiration. The idea began to take shape as Tom noticed the particular beauty of the off-cuts left over from another design. The negative shapes formed a distinctive pattern across each sheet of metal, prompting him to experiment, piecing them together to create this accordion table base. As the design developed, Tom drew upon other wells of inspiration. He noted the influence of Matisse’s iconic “Cut-Out” series as well as the stained-glass windows he designed for the Rosary Chapel in Vence, a place Tom has visited several times. The result is an alter-esque glass-topped dining table, and a fitting homage to its spiritual muse.
